Mit über 50 Millionen Passagieren ist Continental Airlines die sechstgrößte Fluggesellschaft der Welt. Der Flugplan umfasst 149 nationale und 119 internationale Zielflughäfen, 2008 wurde sie von Skytrax als die beste Airline in Nordamerika ausgezeichnet. Im Jahr 1934 gründeten Walter T. Varney und Louis Mueller die Airline als einen Postflugdienst namens „Varney Speed Lines“. Erst 1937 kam der Name Continental Airlines auf. In den 70er Jahren erweiterte sich das Streckennetz der Fluggesellschaft. 1986 befand sich Continental in einem Insolvenzverfahren nach Chapter 11, wo sie 1990 erneut Schutz suchte. Mit den finanziellen Verlusten im Zuge der Terroranschläge des 11. Septembers 2001 in den USA konnte die Airline umgehen. 2009 will Continental Airlines zur Star Alliance wechseln, bislang waren sie im Skyteam. Täglich starten 3.261 Flügen nach Amerika, Europa und Asien zu über 270 Zielen. Dazu zählen unter anderem Minneapolis, Manchester, Tel Aviv oder Dehli. Das Bonusprogramm von Continental Airlines heißt OnePass, bei dem wie gewöhnlich Meilen je nach Flugentfernung gesammelt und zu Upgrades umgewandelt werden können. Dann lässt es sich kostenlos zu mehr als 500 Zielen weltweit fliegen.
